Forest School
Welcome to Forest School at Piddle Valley First School!
Forest School is an important part of our wider curriculum and a valuable way for children to learn through hands-on experiences in the natural world. Our sessions take place outdoors throughout the year, giving children the opportunity to explore, play, discover and take supported risks in a safe and nurturing environment.
Forest School encourages curiosity, confidence and independence. We use the Forest School Star to help children develop self-awareness, self-motivation, empathy, self-regulation and social skills. Alongside this, they learn practical skills such as using tools, building shelters and working as a team, all while deepening their understanding of nature.
Every child in the school takes part in weekly Forest School sessions, which are carefully planned and led by our Level 3 qualified Forest School Leader, Emily Stiles. Emily is an experienced primary school teacher and trained as a Forest School leader in 2019. She supports each child as an individual, helping them grow at their own pace.
Through their regular time in nature, the children build resilience, problem-solving skills and a strong sense of responsibility for the environment.
At Piddle Valley First School, we believe that learning outdoors enriches children’s wellbeing and helps them develop a lifelong connection with the natural world.
